Assessment preparation
Graduate Assessment Test Practice
Identify the assigned format first, then practise the skill and response method it actually requires.
A graduate assessment test can refer to several different question types, so begin by checking your invitation for the actual format, time limit and permitted tools. Then choose practice for the relevant skill and review why each error occurred.
This page explains the whole testing stage. It does not treat aptitude, judgement and personality formats as interchangeable, and its example is original rather than copied from an employer or provider.

Know what the invitation is asking you to do
Write down the provider or platform, test name, deadline, estimated duration, device guidance, adjustment route and any official practice link. If the invitation is vague, ask the sender rather than buying practice for the wrong test.
Choose practice by the required reasoning
Begin untimed if you cannot explain the method. Add moderate time pressure only after you can solve fresh questions accurately. Keep an error log with the question family, your answer, the correct answer, the earliest cause of the mistake and one repair.
Information: A graduate team reviews 120 applications. One quarter move to an online assessment. Forty percent of those assessed reach an interview.
Question: How many applicants reach an interview?
Answer: 12 applicants.
Rationale: First find the assessed group: 120 × 1/4 = 30. Then find 40% of 30: 30 × 0.40 = 12. A common error is taking 40% of all 120 applicants, which ignores the sequence.
This sample practises percentage reasoning and careful sequencing. It is not an official item and does not reproduce any employer’s interface, difficulty or scoring.
Review results without inventing a pass mark
Track accuracy, time and confidence separately. A correct guess needs review; a slow correct answer may show a sound method that needs compression. Compare like with like and use fresh material, because remembering a question can make progress look larger than it is.
Official assessment results may be interpreted against a comparison group or an employer’s criteria. A practice percentage cannot be converted reliably into an employer decision. Use practice to improve method, not to forecast an interview.

Oxford University Careers Service guidance on psychometric assessments distinguishes ability, personality, situational judgement and game-based formats and recommends format-specific preparation.
Prepare for the test you were assigned
Confirm the format, complete a small diagnostic and choose the next practice session from the earliest error you can identify.
Build a seven-day preparation cycle
On day one, identify the assessment and complete only enough fresh practice to locate the main weakness. Use days two and three to rebuild that method without severe time pressure. On day four, mix the repaired skill with a stronger area. On day five, complete one realistic timed set. Review it on day six, then use the final day for a light warm-up, device check and rest.
If the deadline is closer, reduce the number of questions rather than skipping review. If it is farther away, repeat the cycle with new material and a different weakness. Do not perform a full simulation every day; repeated high-pressure sets can show the same error without repairing it.
Protect test integrity and working conditions
Use only the aids authorised by the assessment. Do not screenshot, copy, record or reconstruct secure items. Close avoidable distractions, arrange a stable connection where possible and complete the official compatibility check. If a technical problem affects the session, note what happened and contact the official support route without exposing question content.
Should you practise every test family?
No. Prepare the format named in the invitation. Broad familiarity is useful only when the assignment is genuinely mixed or still unclear.
How do you know practice is helping?
Look for repeatable improvement on fresh material: fewer errors from the targeted cause, clearer working or stable accuracy at a modestly faster pace. A single high score is weak evidence.
What should you do the night before?
Confirm the deadline and setup, organise permitted materials and stop heavy practice early enough to rest. Last-minute volume rarely compensates for fatigue.
Assessment readiness checklist
Confirm the named test, provider, deadline, time zone, duration, device, browser and permitted aids. Complete the official tutorial, check the adjustment route and save the support contact outside the secure test screen. Close unnecessary applications and notifications before starting.
Your final practice should use fresh material and the correct response model. For ability questions, solve and verify; for judgement items, evaluate context and consequences; for self-report formats, read carefully and answer honestly. Stop if fatigue makes the session less informative.
