Who should use this complete Psytech guide
Psytech International publishes a broad occupational assessment portfolio rather than one universal “Psytech test.” The most common preparation route begins with the General Reasoning Tests. Psytech describes GRT2 and GRTi as measures of general reasoning suitable for non-graduate-level applicants. Both cover verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning, and the sections can be administered separately or together. GRTi is presented as an item-banked short-form test.
The exact name matters. GRT1 is the Graduate Reasoning Test for graduate, professional and managerial contexts, while GRT2 targets general-level reasoning. AdaptGRT, often encountered through Adapt-g wording, uses adaptive delivery and grew from the GRT2 family. Critical Reasoning, ART or ARTi, Clerical Test Battery and Technical Test Battery are separate products. A candidate should never assume that every Psytech invitation has the same questions, duration or scoring.
Psytech also offers personality, values, motives and situational-judgement tools. PVQ combines personality with values and motives, while VMI is described as a normative self-report inventory. These prompts are not knowledge questions with a correct persona. Preparation should improve comprehension, stable context and honest self-description, not coach a candidate to impersonate a preferred profile.
Build an invitation map before opening practice. Record the product name, section names, deadline, device rules, stated duration, permitted materials, accessibility route and support contact. Regional delivery, employer configuration and product version can affect the candidate experience. Where public sources and the invitation differ, the live instructions control.
Psytech product decision map
| Invitation wording | What it measures | Preparation route |
|---|---|---|
| GRT2 | General-level verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning; sections may be assigned together or separately | Use the matching scored reasoning banks |
| GRTi | Item-banked short-form general reasoning across the same three domains | Confirm the live timer and practise flexible pacing |
| GRT1 / Graduate Reasoning Test | Higher-level verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning for graduate or managerial contexts | Use graduate-difficulty reasoning; do not apply GRT2 assumptions |
| Adapt-g / AdaptGRT | Adaptive general reasoning derived from the GRT family | Practise the domains, not a fixed item count or path |
| CRT, ART/ARTi, CTB or TTB | Critical, abstract, clerical or technical tests | Open only the named specialist bank |
| PVQ, VMI, personality, values or SJT | Self-report profile or judgement content, depending on the named product | Use honest reflection or scenario reasoning; never a fake ideal-personality key |
Format and timing overview

Practice and study workflow
Begin with a module-specific diagnostic, repair the earliest error and test the new method on fresh items. Add timing only after accuracy and explanations are stable.
Maintain separate histories for verbal, numerical, abstract, specialist and self-report work. The practice page provides original examples for each boundary.
Results and feedback overview
Psytech states that GRT2/GRTi reports can break performance down across subscales using profiles and narrative, and that extensive norms allow comparison with vocational groups. Norm-referenced interpretation depends on the selected reference group. A percentile is a relative rank, not the percentage of questions answered correctly.
Raw performance, normed standing and an employer decision are different layers. A strong subscale can coexist with a weaker one; an employer may weight the role-relevant evidence. There is no defensible universal Psytech pass score across products, jobs, versions and norm groups.
Self-report outputs require a different language. Personality, values and motives are patterns or preferences, not knowledge grades. They should not be added to reasoning accuracy or converted into a pass probability. Qualified interpretation and the employer process determine what feedback is available.
Product-specific Psytech preparation method
For scored reasoning, use a repeatable four-stage method. First translate the command into the exact output required. Second extract the relevant words, quantities or visual relationships. Third select the simplest valid rule or operation. Fourth verify the choice against every condition. This structure works across unfamiliar verbal, numerical and abstract items without pretending to reproduce Psytech content.
Track accuracy, response time and confidence separately for each domain. A single overall practice percentage can hide a vocabulary problem, a calculation error or an abstract-rule mistake. Review the earliest cause: instruction reading, evidence selection, representation, rule choice, arithmetic, option comparison, verification or pacing. Repair that cause and test it on fresh material.
In verbal work, define the relationship before comparing options. For vocabulary or antonym-style practice, use context carefully and distinguish meaning from tone. For short arguments, label premises and conclusions and avoid importing outside knowledge. The public technical material may describe broad item families, but Heycademy examples are newly written and do not reproduce official stems or option sets.
In numerical work, write units and estimate a reasonable range before calculating. Convert percentages, ratios and rates into one consistent representation. Use elimination when options are widely separated, but verify close choices with an exact calculation. Speed should come from a compact method rather than skipped reasoning.
In abstract work, inventory shape, position, count, orientation, shading and movement. Test one feature at a time and reject any rule that fails a frame. If several transformations operate together, record them in a fixed order. Rotate or mirror only when the evidence supports it; visual complexity is not proof of a complicated rule.
For clerical or technical content, stay inside the named battery. Clerical preparation may involve checking, spelling, verbal reasoning or numerical ability. Technical preparation can involve distinct mechanical, spatial or numerical competencies. Do not claim that a clerical-checking question predicts a GRT2 abstract score or that a technical item belongs in every Psytech assessment.
For personality, values and motives, read qualifiers such as usually, rarely and strongly. Use a stable work context and answer honestly. For an SJT, identify stakeholders, constraints and consequences, then prefer responses that address the issue proportionately and professionally. An SJT can have evaluated options; a self-report preference does not become right or wrong.
Introduce timing only after the method survives unfamiliar untimed sets. Rehearse with the duration in the current invitation. Do not force GRT1’s publicly stated 28-minute duration onto GRT2, GRTi, AdaptGRT or a custom battery. Adaptive and item-banked formats also make fixed question-count strategies unreliable unless the live instructions supply that count.
Effective preparation is diagnostic rather than repetitive. Begin each session with one question about performance: does estimating reduce percentage errors, does a relationship label improve verbal accuracy, or does a feature inventory prevent impulsive abstract choices? Use a small fresh set to answer it. Stop when the evidence is sufficient and choose the next repair from the result.
Vary one difficulty dimension at a time. Add irrelevant data, make language more precise, combine two visual transformations or shorten the time modestly. Sudden changes make it hard to identify why performance shifted. Controlled variation provides better evidence that a method transfers beyond a memorised practice set.
Explanation is the quality gate. State the governing relationship, calculation or transformation and explain why the nearest distractor fails. Include units for numerical work and explicit observations for abstract work. If the only explanation is that an answer looked right, mark the item unresolved even when it happened to be correct.
Keep product boundaries visible in the practice interface and progress history. GRT2 and GRTi may share three domains, but delivery can differ. GRT1 changes the target population and difficulty context. AdaptGRT changes administration logic. Specialist batteries and self-report tools need their own labels, instructions, timers and feedback modes.
Norm-referenced results compare performance with an identified reference group. A percentile is relative standing, not percent correct, and a subscale profile does not create a universal hiring threshold. Employers can choose role-relevant decision rules and combine assessment evidence with interviews, experience or work samples. Heycademy practice cannot calculate an official Psytech percentile.
Protect confidentiality and recovery. Short focused sessions usually provide clearer evidence than long repetitive blocks. End demanding practice early enough to sleep, check the testing environment and keep support details available outside the secure assessment screen. Never photograph, copy, reconstruct or share protected questions.
If the invitation is vague, ask the sender which Psytech product and sections are assigned. “Psytech assessment” is insufficient for choosing a timer or bank. Confirm whether the task is GRT2, GRTi, GRT1, adaptive reasoning, critical reasoning, abstract reasoning, clerical, technical, personality, values or judgement before purchasing extensive practice.
No preparation provider can guarantee a pass, percentile, interview or job. The responsible objective is to demonstrate your own reasoning accurately, understand the response model, manage the confirmed conditions and answer self-report content honestly. Guarantees and secret cutoffs should be treated as warning signs.
Study planning and test-day controls
A seven-day plan can use one identification and baseline day, three targeted repair days, one mixed transfer session, one restrained timed rehearsal and one light setup day. A fourteen-day plan can add separate verbal, numerical and abstract cycles, a specialist-module session where required, two mixed sets and more recovery. If time is short, reduce volume rather than sacrificing sleep.
Use Learning Mode while methods are unstable. Review why the correct option works and why the strongest distractor fails. Move to timed practice only when explanations remain accurate on fresh items. A speed drill can help arithmetic, vocabulary retrieval or feature scanning, but it should not claim to simulate an adaptive algorithm or official norm group.
Maintain a private error log with domain, item type, result, time, confidence, earliest error and repair. Do not store invitation links, employer identifiers, screenshots, official questions or report text. Compare like with like. Ability accuracy can be reviewed quantitatively; personality and values preparation should use comprehension and consistency notes rather than a score.
On test day, follow the live tutorial, use only authorised equipment and reset your response model when the module changes. Objective reasoning requires evidence and verification; self-report requires honest description; judgement requires contextual evaluation. If a technical issue occurs, use the official support route without recording protected content.
